The Gift of Existing

Existing is a gift, even if we are not always able to see it. Life includes suffering, loss, uncertainty, frustration and moments when carrying on requires considerable effort. There is no existence completely free of pain. Expecting happiness to be permanent is a failure to understand the nature of life. Suffering is not an anomaly, but part of the experience of being alive. Accepting this does not mean resigning ourselves to it, but rather understanding that its presence does not invalidate everything else.

Despite everything, existence is worth it. Being able to think, discover, learn, love, share a moment with someone or simply contemplate the world are experiences whose value does not disappear because pain also exists. Perhaps the mistake is measuring life by how much happiness it gives us rather than by the privilege of being able to experience it. We did not choose to be born or the circumstances that accompany us, but we have the opportunity to live something that, by definition, will never happen again. And that, despite everything it entails, is a gift.
