We often underestimate stress, believing we can handle it or that it doesn’t affect us. Some even claim a little stress is beneficial. I disagree. Stress is one of the most harmful things we experience. When something stresses me, I sleep poorly and wake up more exhausted than when I went to bed.
Physical exhaustion is different. You rest, and your body recovers. But stress induced fatigue doesn’t go away with sleep. It builds up, turning into anxiety and, eventually, depression. That’s when your body shuts down and forces you to stop. Stress doesn’t just wear you out, it destroys you.
