It has taken me many years to understand that I don’t need to justify every decision, that I can take care of myself without explaining why. I grew up in an environment where everything had to be reasoned and approved, where saying “no” was never enough. Living like that makes you believe your worth depends on what others understand or accept. But it’s not true. There comes a point when it’s enough to know what you need and act accordingly.
You don’t have to explain why you’re not going, why you don’t reply, or why you need silence. Most of the time, explanations are unnecessary. Saying “I can’t” or “I don’t want to” is enough. Stopping the need to justify yourself is a form of self-respect and, above all, freedom.
