Artificial Intelligence, The Name That Doesn’t Describe What It Is

ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or Kimi k2 are presented as artificial intelligence, but the term is mostly marketing. It is used to attract attention, investment, and expectations, not to accurately describe what’s behind it. An LLM has no consciousness, intention, or understanding. It doesn’t know if something is true or false, doesn’t perceive the world, doesn’t feel, has no personal experience, and doesn’t learn from life events. It has no common sense, judgment, or causal understanding of reality.

It also doesn’t think or reason in a human sense. It doesn’t make decisions, pursue goals, or have values, ethics, or responsibility. It doesn’t know why it gives a response. It only calculates probabilities based on large volumes of text. It doesn’t have knowledge, only statistical correlations between words. It seems intelligent because language tricks us and because we tend to attribute mind to anyone who speaks fluently. Behind it, there is no understanding, just a highly advanced text-predicting machine.
