Spending energy on paths you’re not going to take only creates noise. Thinking about what you could have done, what others expect from you, or what might be better according to someone else leads nowhere. If something isn’t part of your life right now, there’s no need to keep turning it over. Looking away doesn’t mean denial, it’s choosing where to focus your attention.
Clarity doesn’t always come from knowing more, but from discarding what you don’t need. If you’re not going back to that person, if you’re not changing jobs, if you’re not moving, stop thinking about it. Thinking less isn’t giving up, it’s focus. What matters is what you do today, not everything you could be doing.
